Extreme cold is hitting Canada and the eastern half of the United States this week. Many areas have not seen such cold temperatures in nearly two decades.
The perfectly-preserved scene is from the mid-Cretaceous, when flowering plants were changing the face of the Earth forever, adding beauty, biodiversity and food.
This is only the second time that astronomers spotted an asteroid before it struck Earth's atmosphere. It underscores the need to be watching for these objects.
