Allagash Wilderness Waterway
July 2, 2018
The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a 92-mile-long ribbon of lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, about 288 miles (463 km) northeast of Portland, Maine. Please note that while there are no designated stargazing areas, the waters are accessible by the public year-round and also provide ample opportunity for hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and more, including stargazing at Maine’s clear and wide open night skies that reach the horizon. One EarthSky friend says the “surrounding lakes offer 360 degree view with no light pollution.” Camping is also allowed at numerous sites along the waterway. For more information, please visit online or call 207-941-4014.
