April 7, 2018
De Tour Village is a village in Chippewa County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located at the tip of the Upper Peninsula, the population was 325 at the 2010 census. The village rates at about class 4 in the Bortle scale, but surrounding areas rate at about class 2, making for some of the finest skies in the eastern half of the U.S. A stargazer who is familiar with the area shared the following with EarthSky: “Near-perfect darkness, yet still in civilization. Truly dark sites are only a few miles away once you get out of the village proper.”
