Johnston Ridge Observatory
October 8, 2017
Johnston Ridge Observatory, the primary visitor centre for the volcanic Mount St. Helens, is actually a non-astronomical observatory. It hosts interpretive displays that tell the biological, geological, and human story of the mountain. Nevertheless, the location is good for stargazing too (as well as hiking the slopes, learning about geologic history, and exploring lava tubes). A fellow stargazer describes it as “Far from city lights and light pollution.”
