Mosaic of the moon’s north pole

A camera aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been orbiting the moon since 2009, acquired the images used in this mosaic of the moon’s north polar region. Doesn’t this image look alien and strange, especially as part of the terrain of an object we’ve seen in our sky all our lives?
