Noctilucent clouds and rising moon

These clouds – sometimes called night-shining clouds – are thought to be made of ice crystals that form on fine dust particles from meteors.

Jüri Voit has been a long-time friend of EarthSky on Facebook, and he’s posted many wonderful photos there from his native country of Estonia, in northern Europe. Here is his latest, taken on July 6, 2015. It’s a beautiful shot of noctilucent clouds, sometimes called “night-shining clouds” because they shine at a night.
