Great Blue Heron with ruffled feathers joins two Great Egrets on fallen tree branches on the swamp. The other egrets (not in the photo) tried to drive the heron away but he was determined to stay. The egrets in the photo tolerate the heron. The egret on the right is transitioning into nuptial or breeding plumage as shown by the long delicate ornamental plumes called aigrettes growing on his back the ends reaching the water, and the lore on his eyes starting to turn into neon green.
