A juvenile Red-tailed Hawk in flight and landing on a post. You can tell that it is a first year hawk by the brown striped tail. By the second year, usually about 1.5 yrs old, the hawk will transition into an adult & the bands on the tail are replaced by a solid red color. Also the juvenile's eyes are a pale yellow.
