It seems that the Short-eared owls were taking their time to finally appear in our area. Normally migrating from the north around December or so, they are suddenly starting to show up. I visited the Shawangunk Grasslands, where I finally saw them. They live in open terrain & marshes where they can be active during the day, especially in the evening. It's fun to watch them hunt over the fields with their floppy wingbeats, moving like a giant moth.
