In the Winter months, in our area, Red tailed hawks are spotted frequently. They seem to be in the trees and utility posts along the highways. Also during the cold weather they may appear puffed up, which is actually an efficient way that winter birds manage to survive the bitter cold. Air trapped between it's feathers is heated up by a birds body. This hawk was shaking it's feathers right before flight.
