A pair of Sika Deer walking together at Maryland’s Assateague National Seashore.

They are native to Japan, Taiwan and Eastern Asia. They were introduced into the Chesapeake Bay watershed area in 1916. found on Maryland’s lower Eastern Shore and into Virginia.

They are actually a small member of the elk family.
