Image Details:

This is the nearly full moon rising over the south rim of the grand canyon on the evening of the total lunar eclipse. This image is taken after sunset and I believe the banding on the horizon is the so called belt of Venus as the earth's shadow begins to rise in the sky; this post sunset timing also caused the clouds to take on a bit of glow as sometimes seen with noctilucent clouds; this image was captured around ten hours before the actual lunar eclipse the next morning, the western sky opposite this view had a very red sunset and that lighting also caused the illumination on the canyon to take on a very colorful appearance
