Triple Sunset Display.
On Friday 2nd three contrasting sunset displays were observed after the sun had disappeared below the horizon. The first consisted of direct red reflections of recently set sunlight from low clouds, the second was due to reflections of bright yellow light from lower stratospheric volcanic aerosols and the third was due reflections of deep red light from upper stratospheric volcanic aerosols. Daily colourful volcanic sunset displays continue to be observed from Mutare but in the presence of partial cloud cover these can be preceded by direct reflections of recently set sunlight.
