Viceroy Butterflies are the perfect example of “mimics” in nature. Their field marks are very similar to those of the poisonous Monarch butterfly, so would-be predators stay away!
Isn’t nature brilliant?
To tell a Viceroy from a Monarch, look for that single horizontal stripe at the end of the wing and they are also smaller.
