The local Great Blue Heron was not thrilled when a Great Egret landed in it's territory. They both belong to the heron family, the blue heron a bit larger in size, regularly hanging out on a little island on the Mohawk River. It's this time of the year that the egrets return to our area. During winter they migrate south, traveling as far as the West Indies or southern Central America.
