Image Details:

I was driving my car around 3:30 pm on Saturday as I came back from the hardware store, and two blocks away from home I saw this green iguana crawling right in the middle of the street. This particular specimen measured about a meter long, with the tail accounting for about half of this. These lizards require a large amount of ultraviolet B light (UVB), explaining why they are commonly seen around early to mid-afternoon when the tropical sun is near the zenith. Green iguanas (Iguana iguana) are an introduced species in Puerto Rico, where the favorable warm climate has allowed them to thrive; they can now be seen everywhere in the island.
