Bull Thistle is a big favorite among pollinator insects. But I didn't realize, until I watched an American goldfinch pulling what is called the down from the plant (then doing research) that besides feeding on the seeds, that the female uses the down to line the nest. Flowering starts in mid June, making the goldfinch nesting season later (between June & early August). I love learning new things while enjoying my photography!
