It is difficult to tell a dolphin’s gender just by looking at it. However, if there is a calf by its side, it is most likely a female.
Dolphins mate 365 days a year and as such, there is no calf “season.” Moms gestate calves for 12 months.
We enjoyed seeing this mom and calf together in Cape May over the weekend, playfully surfing our boat’s wake.
