View from space: Arizona Yarnell Hill fire

NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of the Yarnell Hill fire in Arizona on July 1, 2013. The fire was still burning on July 2, and 19 firefights had been killed.

Red outlines indicate hot spots where the satellite detected unusually warm surface temperatures associated with fire. The image is centered at 112.791° West longitude and 34.225° North latitude.

The fire has also destroyed more than 200 homes.
