Science in the Pub with EarthSky’s Jorge Salazar

EarthSky’s Jorge Salazar will share billing with daredevil explorer Dr. William Stone in a Science in the Pub special event at the legendary Cactus Cafe in Austin, Texas, on July 9, 2010.

Salazar, who is lead producer and host of EarthSky – a digital media company that features the voices of scientists describing their work to 15 million people daily – will take the stage first with an introductory presentation. Dr. Stone will then present an update of his most recent exploratory adventures in Antarctica and in the ultra-deep caves of southern Mexico. Dr. Stone is developing the knowledge and equipment to perform extraterrestrial research and lunar mining operations that ultimately could lead to interplanetary travel.

The event is free to the public. Doors open at 3:00 pm and talks begin at 5:15 pm. Limited Occupancy.

UT researchers Dan Boutz and Jamie Vernon created Science in the Pub (SITP). The mission of SITP, according to Vernon, is “to connect locally- and nationally-known scientists with the public in order to facilitate a mutual exchange of ideas.

The EarthSky Promise: To bring the ideas, strategies and research results of scientists to people around the world, with the goal of illuminating pathways to a sustainable future.
