When you live anywhere near a mountain range like the Colorado Rockies, there is one important day per year that stands out for everyone: The day when the mountain tops of the high peaks get their first snow of the season! This year it happened on September 14 for the 14,000+ft tall peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range, part of the Southern Rockies in Colorado. The mountain in this image, Mount Herard, was covered in deep snow after a stormy night and was glowing in the early morning light of the sunrise, with just a little bit of light reaching the valley floor.
