A supernova 2023ixf has been discovered in M101 by Koichi Itagki on May 19th and is rising fast in brightness. This image was captured not long after at 2 am (local Utah) on May 20th. A type II supernova in a bright galaxy will be monitored, studied, and captured by the astronomy community, professional and amateur in the weeks ahead. This is likely one of the best transient events of 2023.
