It is estimated that nearly 15,000 years ago, a supermassive star 20 times the volume of our own sun exploded. The shockwave sent a wave of interstellar dust hurtling outwards at a rate of thousands of kilometers per second. Now spanning light years, the beautiful Cygnus Loop contains several named nebulae. This is the East Veil and is known for its signature "filaments" that are believed to be ripples of the surface of an ionized gas shell viewed on edge.
