This is a single photo, no photoshop no double composition, and how strange It seems that Jupiter and its moons are BEFORE the moon?
Well obviously Jupiter is much further away than the moon so what's happening here? Think of it a bit for yourself but here is the explanation
.
.
.
First some clues: The moons looks pale and dime while Jupiter is bright. That's weird as the almost full moon is very bright. Also the moon isn't sharp which is also weird. Very keen observers notice that the moon looks wrong, in opposite way to what it should be from Israel (32N latitude).
The reason for all these is that the photo actually shows the internal reflection of the moon in the lens, an effect sometimes called ghost image. I could avoid it is some ways but decided to use it for this illusion and with gentle control of the tripod put the moon on Jupiter moons.
There is also a perceptual illusion in the photo. We think that the moon is BEHIND Jupiter because we know that the moon is opaque. However the reflection is transparent of course, so Jupiter and its moons are indeed behind the (internal reflection of the) moon!
I find this entire idea fascinating and learned a lot from it and hope you will share it with your viewers.
