The Great Egret has arrived! Of all the Spring birds that arrive to the state where the Mississippi river starts its southbound journey, I am fascinated by this one. If the first flying duck tells us that "Spring is in the Air" , the arrival of this bird marks the end of frost (and beginning of the growing season). All observations and anecdotes aside, This is one beautiful, majestic bird that is extremely quiet and shy. It always brings a certain kind of calmness and silent joy when you watch such solitary birds from a distance.
