David Maidment researches surface water hydrology (the way water flows.) Originally from New Zealand, Dr. Maidment is a professor of civil engineering at the University of Texas/Austin. Dr. Maidment’s current projects include applying GIS for floodplain mapping, water quality modeling, and water resources assessment. He works with the Hydrologic Engineering Center of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to create GIS interfaces for the center’s computer models, and he directs the Center for Research in Water Resources.
