The osprey pair had come back to their old nest! This is one of the pair outside their nest which is to the right (not in the image) of him. The other pair had flown away.
The osprey "Pandion haliaetus" are also known as sea hawk, river hawk and fish hawk, but these could be old nomenclature as they are simply called ospreys nowadays.
