Skirting the edge of a storm as we headed from Salem, Oregon to Portland, something unexpected happened. A beautiful rainbow arched across the horizon, the symbol of a promise that radiated color against the angry, dark face of the storm. I briefly wondered which end had the pot of gold, but then I turned around and realized it's always at the other direction from the rainbow. The elusive sun had slipped into a break in the clouds and bathed the landscape in gold. I left the gold behind but captured the promise to share.
