𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁 – 𝟭𝟮𝗣/𝗣𝗼𝗻𝘀-𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀

Despite its name evoking fear upon hearing the word comet, there is nothing particularly terrifying about this comet for us. During the formation of the solar system, this comet, which is nearly three times larger in diameter than the Mount Everest, was created with an abundance of ice, rocks, and cosmic dust. Similar to Volcano, this comet frequently experiences eruptions. Since July 2023, astronomers have observed four eruptions on this comet, and due to regular eruptions, formations resembling horns or spikes have been seen on its head, hence it has been named the Devil's Comet.
In 1812, Jean-Louis Pons and William Robert Brooks discovered this comet, which has a period of about 71 years in its orbit. Much like Halley's Comet, it follows a similar orbit. What is interesting is that it is approaching very close to the Sun, and its brightness has been increasing daily, reaching its maximum on April 21, 2024. Furthermore, on April 8, 2024, there will be a solar eclipse visible from parts of Mexico and America, and at that time, this comet will be very close to the Sun and in a very bright state. Consequently, many astrophotographers will undoubtedly attempt to capture it, and hopefully, we will get to see some dazzling images of this comet.
After that, this guest will once again travel far away, about 34 astronomical units away from the midpoint of Venus and Earth's orbit. Fortunately, yesterday I managed to capture this comet with my camera for a very short period of time, and our dear astronomer Basudeb has processed that image in such a spectacular way, for which I express my special gratitude to Basudeb, one of our favorite astronomers & astrophotogaphers in Bengal.
