An alert went out to birders in the Los Angeles area from a woman who spotted a rare bird in her front yard. Many of us converged at her home over a few days to see the bird which was a Broad-billed Hummingbird. They are primarily found in Mexico and up into Arizona. It is very rare to see one in Los Angeles. The bird has a broader bill than most hummingbirds with a red base and the birds colors were incredibly bright green and blue iridescent.
