I went outside to find a ring around the moon this afternoon. The ring is an optical illusion that is caused when the moon light refracts off ice crystals in a veil of cirrus clouds creating a lens around 20,000 feet above us. The Moon Halo was certainly a beautiful sight to see after such a cold but absolutely gorgeous day.
