The “Great Salt Lake effect” influences precipitation along the Wasatch range and in the surrounding metropolis. As northwesterly storms move across the lake and get carried over the mountains frequent, heavy precipitation can occur (usually in the form of snow during the winter). Snow quality of the Wasatch Mountains has been described as “the best snow on earth”, as the Utah license plate exemplifies.
