At 7,500 feet we traversed the landscape on our cross-country skis next to the trickling of a stream and the hush of snowy blankets layered over the mountains of Spruces Campground in Big Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City, UT. So far, we have received about 28 feet of snow at the top of the canyons, which is encouraging in a semiarid desert.
