I was trying to get shots of the migrating Hooded Mergansers that return every fall to the L.A. County Arboretum. They are aways a big draw for photographers hoping to get them as they are fishing for and eating crawdads. This female Merganser was flapping her wings sending up a large spray of water. Fortunately the background was in the shade and the resulting image looked like a galaxy with a myriad of colors against a dark sky.
