This is an Amanita muscaria mushroom, a poisonous species that is very attractive to the eyes. It is commonly called fly agaric. It is hallucinogenic and was once used as a fly poison.
I saw it the day before well hidden on the side of the trail. It was roundish in shape, and I thought the next day just like a bud, it would open up more, which it did, and that's when I took this photo.
