Smoke-hazed Sunset with Passing Plane.
In the late afternoon on Wednesday 6th September, the Sun shone dimly through thick smoke haze as it descended towards the summit of Murawa Mountain to the west of Mutare. At 5.11 pm a light aircraft reflecting setting sunlight from one of its wings unexpectedly passed over Murambi Heights from the East before circling in smoke-hazed sky in front of the Sun. Smoke-hazed sunsets are now an almost daily occurrence as annual late dry season burning of vegetation becomes established in the region. This will intensify during the next two months and persist until arrival of the next rainy season in November.
