There are two types of vultures in New Jersey, Turkey Vultures and the pictured Black Vultures. Turkey Vultures have always been native to NJ but Black Vultures have only recently expanded northward in range. The Black Vulture can be distinguished by its Black head (as opposed to the red head of the Turkey Vulture) and the lighter colored wingtips that some birders refer to as “Jazz Hands.”
