At the topmost branch of a very tall spruce tree this fierce looking bald eagle is perched, surveying his surroundings overlooking a river. The bald eagle subsists mainly on fish which it swoops down upon and snatches from the water with its talons.
Bald eagles are not actually bald; the name derives from an older meaning of the word, "white headed." There was a time when bald meant white.
