Two images were cropped and combined to show both sides of the butterfly.
A butterfly painted lady (Vanessa cardui) feeds on flowers of shrubby cinquefoil (Dasiphora_fruticosa, also known as Potentilla fruticosa)
On the left photo, the antennae and proboscis lowered into the calyx of the flower are clearly visible, as well as the palps and the compound eye of a greenish color.
