Paper wasp (Poliste fuscatus) landed on the vibrant white Candytuft Iberis flowers (Iberis sempervirens). This attractive wasp feeds on nectar. In the spring, it is an important pollinator. Typically not aggressive, but three years ago a wasp from this species stung me on the back of my thigh when I unwittingly sat on it. For about an hour I felt intense burning at the site of the sting.
