The osprey ‘Pandion haliaetus’ also called seahawk, river hawk and fish hawk is a large bird of prey reaching more than 24 inches (60 cm) in length and 71 inches (180 cm) across. This photo shows a male osprey on a tree; the female osprey is in their nearby nest incubating their eggs. The male brings her fish to eat while she is incubating.
While the western meadowlark is designated as the state songbird of Oregon, the osprey is designated as the state raptor of Oregon.
