The two front stars of the Big Dipper are called Pointers-they point to Polaris, the North Star. The Little Dipper is home to Polaris, one of the most important stars in navigation. Since the Little Dipper is found at the north celestial pole, it doesn’t move around like the other constellations do. When you are looking at Polaris, you are facing north.
I was hoping to see the Northern Lights, but there was light pollution in our area. I did see moving reddish bands, most likely clouds. The Big Dipper and the North Star are prominent in the sky, so I was happy to take this picture.
