I enjoy very much the northern lights photos on EarthSky because Hong Kong isn’t blessed with this phenomenon. The closest experience I’ve had to it here was this recent glorious sunset. The spectacular colour at the base of the clouds lit up the western sky in a way that was breathtaking. I wondered if those beautiful vertical wisps of illuminated cloud hanging down towards the hills could be virga? There seemed to be some grey cloud spilling diagonally from the more distant cloud base too. We’d had no rain for a few days, humidity had come down a bit, and temperatures were in the twenties Celsius.
