The black-collared starling can be found in southern China and parts of south-east Asia, and is a common resident bird in Hong Kong. It’s pictured here calling to its own kind. A very vocal bird, its call is quite easily recognized, and it can be quite bold in character too. It’s the largest member of the starling family in Hong Kong, and is visually distinctive, with a black collar around its neck, a white head, and a patch of bare yellow skin around the eye.
