Altocumulus, also called mackerel clouds, at sunrise this morning indicating that a storm is coming in the afternoon.
“Mackerel scales and mares’ tails make lofty ships carry low sails.” A weather folklore rhyme warning ships to lower and take in their sails because a storm may be approaching soon, so the sails should be lowered to protect them from the high winds.
