I had never heard of Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds until I posted an album of shots on Facebook from my transcendent night at Bunche Beach in Fort Myers, FL. All the elements were there for an exquisite night: rock-bottom low tide; a large collection of wading birds that were exuberant and peaceful at the same time, just reveling in the moment; and a not-so-large collection of human beings who could destroy this moment. I had been on a sandbar on another recent night and three screaming kids came running toward a colony of least terns and chased them away -- encouraged multiple times by their dad. But on this night, bliss reigned.
