Drying layers of clay after a flash flood in an arroyo which I crossed during my journey deeper into the desert. I had to pause and walk the wash to determine if my Subaru Outback would successfully be able to navigate the eroded banks, deep soft sand and steep transitions cut by the floodwaters some days earlier. Subie made it just fine both going and coming back although I scooped sand up into the fog lights and grille with each passing. During the pre-crossing inspection, I noticed the drying, cracking clay bed and took this picture.
