Image Details:

This photo was shot from Shenandoah National Park looking west over the Shenandoah Valley and the town of Waynesboro a few minutes before sunset on Monday evening. Smoke from California wildfires made it to the upper atmosphere over Virginia, and acted as a solar filter of sorts. The blue haze is mostly smoke, and the red/orange disk of the sun stood out in stark contrast. The blue ridges of the Appalachian Mountains/Allegheny Front are visible in the foreground.
