Image Details:

Crepuscular rays caught in a beautiful, clear sky night in the desert of northern México. The pond in the picture is home for two aquatic turtles and at least 3 fish species, all endemic to this Valley. The amazing thing is that, besides the fact this place is right inside of the Chihuahuan Desert (the biggest in North America, extending from Arizona & New Mexico in the USA to the middle part of México), this basin has a full bunch of ponds (at least 500), and this one, Las Playitas, is the largest of all.
About 300 m in front of the photographer lies a smaller pond that is home to hundreds of stromatolites (the most ancient fossil record of life), thriving in a water ecosistem that is not too different to the ancient Thetys Sea, some 3.5 billion years ago.
