Image Details:

A large and vibrant Perseid meteor streaks through the night sky above the volcanic peaks of the Three Sisters in the central #Oregon Cascade Mountains as the Milky Way looms bright.

I hiked to the summit of Black Crater at sunset. Perfect viewing conditions were quickly replaced by high winds and thick clouds that enveloped the summit and I couldn't see a foot in front of me. After 90 mins of hunkering down, the clouds cleared and the mountains, stars and meteors emerged. A few of the bigger meteors lit up the trees around me as they burned up, including the one in this photo. I had traveled from to Oregon from Rhode Island so I'm glad the conditions cleared.
